Review of Concert on

Saturday 29th February 2020

by Richard Benger

Composer Betty Roe, MBE, celebrates her ninetieth birthday this year, and the anniversary was celebrated by the Tritone singers during their concert on Saturday evening

In a substantial choral programme they performed eight of Roe's songs in all, the choir pieces proving to be imaginative works using interesting texts. Simpler though equally enjoyable were the solo songs to words by Shakespeare, performed by Helen Mansfield and Robin Lang with flute obbligati by Siobhan Cosgrove.

The remainder of the programme consisted of mostly unaccompanied madrigals and part songs. In these, the conductor Richard Wilkins drew fine tone and almost perfect balance from the choir.f
